Due to continued growth, we have a newly created role based out of our Bendigo Head Office for a Rail Safety & Assurance Officer to join the team on a full time basis.
The Rail Safety & Assurance Officer will support the organisation0s rail safety compliance and assurance activities by investigating notifiable occurrences, assisting with monitoring compliance with rail safety legislation, directly supporting assurance processes, and contributing to a positive safety culture.
Responsibilities
* Lead incident reporting, by overseeing evidence collection and collation, while being the responsible investigator for each matter.
* Directly interpretating evidence and data, and assessing it against regulatory reporting requirements across relevant jurisdictions.
* Understand and interpret rail operational information and incident causality.
* Write incident investigation reports for a variety of stakeholders.
* Formulate and track corrective actions and ensure closure within required timeframes.
* Support and participate in regulatory compliance activities from external agencies (ONRSR, ATSB / OTSI etc.)
* Safety Management System (SMS) Support
* Assist with maintaining and updating Safety Management System (SMS) documentation, including review, development of policies, procedures and work instruction manuals.
* Undertake and support internal audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
* Support SMS review processes and assist in production of annual rail safety and compliance performance reporting.
* Regulatory Compliance Support
* Assist in monitoring compliance with rail safety legislation, standards, and internal policies.
* Support the preparation of regulatory reporting and documentation.
* Brief inhouse legal team on matters and seek legal advice as required
* Assurance & Risk Monitoring
* Support data collection, analysis, and reporting on safety performance.
* Assist in identifying and monitoring emerging risks and trends in business.
* Provide solutions to eliminate or mitigate risks.
* Create briefs for senior management which include the above.
* Stakeholder Engagement
* Liaise with internal stakeholder to gather information and support compliance activities, including risk assessments, investigations, operational reporting and change management.
* Assist in developing and communicating safety expectations and improvements, including safety alerts and notices.
Qualifications
* Relevant qualifications in OHS/WHS and/or rail safety
* Qualifications in safety, engineering, risk, compliance, or related field highly desirable
* Rail industry experience highly desirable
* Proven incident investigation skills and/or qualifications, with the ability to identify root causes
* Significant experience in safety compliance, or safety audit role
* Knowledge of, or ability to quickly gain knowledge of, rail safety law
* High attention to detail
* Exceptional communications skills, both written and verbal
* Prior experience working in a fast paced environment
* Ability to think on your feet
* Professional and positive can do attitude
* Commitment to a safety first culture
* Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain one
