Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) is an airport operator that owns and operates Gold Coast, Townsville, Longreach and Mount Isa airports. We welcomed about 6.3 million passengers in FY20. We are an Australian-owned company with a vision to engage customers, connect communities and deliver exceptional experiences.

About the role

An exciting opportunity has become available for an Environmental Advisor to join the Gold Coast Airport team. This role is permanent and will report to and assist the Environmental Manager - Systems.

Peter, our Environment Manager - Systems, shares his experience working with GCA: "I joined the team for a 3-month parental relief position and am still enjoying the positive work environment 5 years later. The team provides great support for its employees, including diverse career opportunities, internal transfers, flexible working arrangements and an accepting culture that encourages a "can do" approach which is productive and satisfying."

As Environmental Advisor, you will be responsible for managing environmental compliance at Gold Coast Airport, with a focus on tenant and contractor environmental performance, inspections, and water quality monitoring. You'll work across the airport precinct to ensure activities align with regulatory requirements, QAL's Environmental Management System (EMS), and our Environmental Strategy.

This role is a great fit for an environmental professional who enjoys balancing technical work with stakeholder engagement and who wants to make a positive impact in a unique and dynamic operating environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Implement and oversee tenant and contractor environmental management programs.
* Conduct regular inspections, audits, and monitoring activities to ensure compliance.
* Review and assess Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for development and operational activities.
* Manage environmental monitoring programs (e.g. water, air, noise, waste, soil).
* Investigate and respond to environmental incidents in line with QAL procedures.
* Deliver environmental inductions and training for staff, tenants, and contractors.
* Maintain accurate databases, records, and regulatory reporting.
* Work with the Environmental Systems Manager to support QAL's sustainability and compliance outcomes.

About You

You are a motivated and proactive professional who can work independently and build effective relationships with tenants, contractors, regulators, and colleagues. You bring a mix of technical environmental knowledge, compliance experience, and communication skills.

Essential

* Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
* Experience in implementing or working with Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001 or similar).
* Hands-on experience with inspections, audits, and environmental monitoring.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities and projects.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong attention to detail with ability to identify risks, trends and compliance gaps.
* Current Queensland driver's licence.
* Eligibility to hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) and pass a Federal Police check.

Desirable

* Experience in airport, transport, or infrastructure operations.
* GIS or environmental data management experience.
* ISO 14001 auditing training/experience.
* Incident investigation training (e.g. ICAM).

What we offer you

This is an opportunity to be part of a progressive organisation with a great culture and assist in the transformation and growth of the business. Flexible working options are available for all employees. At QAL, we uphold the philosophy that the smooth integration of life and work benefits all. We call it 'Living Well'.

QAL supports an inclusive approach and values diversity within the workplace. We aim to provide opportunities that allow individuals to reach their full potential regardless of their background, gender, age, work status, religious or cultural identity.
