Overview
Roof Tilers cover roofs with tiles, sheets and shingles to form a waterproof surface. This diverse role will include but not limited to:
Installing tiles, metal sheets, or shingles on roofs to form a durable, weatherproof covering.
Measuring and planning work sites to determine materials required.
Handling roof tiling materials, including lifting, moving and placing materials.
Cutting and shaping tiles, metal sheets or shingles to fit roof features such as vents, chimney edges etc.
Nailing and securing roofing underlay to roofs.
Aligning and spacing materials to ensure a symmetrical finish as well as a proper water runoff.
Preventing leaks by sealing joints and edges.
Removing old or damaged roofing materials.
Using ladders and scaffolds.
Working safely at heights/on roofs by applying WHS (Work Health and Safety) policies and procedures.
Safely using hand and power tools.
Inspecting completed roofs to ensure quality, durability and waterproofing.
Qualifications in Australia
Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Certificate III, consisting of a two-year period of practical, in office experience—often through apprenticeship, or a AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3).
Must obtain a white card by completing a general induction training course (course reference CPCWHS1001), if not already in possession of one.
Working conditions
At heights, outdoors, in varied weather conditions.
Involves physical stamina including climbing ladders and manual lifting etc.
