The Yellagundgimarra Hospital Doomadgee is a Level 2 remote hospital providing 24/7 acute inpatient and emergency care. Services are delivered by a multidisciplinary team, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers, nursing, medical, administration and operational staff, with a strong focus on culturally appropriate care. The Waanyi and Gangalidda people are recognised as the Traditional Custodians of the area.
About The Role
As part of our Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Service (ATODS), you'll play a vital role in reducing harm associated with alcohol and other drugs and in improving mental wellbeing. You'll work closely with individuals, families, groups, and community members, supporting culturally safe access to care and building community capacity. In this role you will:
- Provide cultural assessments and support to improve engagement with Mental Health & ATODS services.
- Work with individuals, families, and groups on initiatives to reduce harm and improve wellbeing.
- Facilitate programs in areas such as life skills and self-help for those impacted by AOD and mental health challenges.
- Connect clients with specialist mental health, AOD, and allied health services.
- Support and educate primary health providers in early intervention and culturally safe care.
- Assist with prevention and health promotion through culturally appropriate education and community activities.
- Actively contribute to quality improvement, workplace safety, and inclusive workforce practices.
Requirements
- Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
- Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, including Criminal History checks.
- This is a VPD risk role and may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Tuberculosis.
- A current ‘C' Class driver's licence is essential.
