About the Role
The Public Engagement Specialist works under the direct supervision of the Country Public Affairs Officer (CPAO) or CPAO designee and supervises one Locally Engaged Staff member (Emerging Voices Exchanges/Alumni Outreach/Experiential Learning Coordinator). Serves as principal advisor, designer, and manager of the Mission's countrywide exchange programs for Established Opinion Leader audiences, including individuals and organizations such as think tanks, professional associations, civil society organizations, academic institutions.
Is the lead LE strategist/advisor responsible for Canberra's Public Diplomacy (PD) engagement with Established Opinion Leader and Emerging Voices audiences. Serves as an advisor for Mission-wide programming and strategy for engagement with Established Opinion Leader and Emerging Voices in Australia. Tracks trends in audience interest and response through direct engagement, research, polling, and statistical analysis and analytics. Designs and recommends PD strategies to connect with audience sectors to promote understanding of and support for U.S. policy and to counter malign and inaccurate perceptions.

Skills and Experience
* Five (5) years experience in multicultural or multinational, academic or Government work environment, with project management, communications, and/or education duties as a significant part of the job is required.
* University degree in international relations, American or intercultural studies, communications, political science, economics is required.
* Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
* Must be available to travel throughout Australia to support professional exchange and speaker/specialist projects and activities.
