Georges River Council is offering an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced Curator to become part of our dynamic Museum and Gallery team, right in the heart of Hurstville.

About the Role

As a Curator, you will contribute to the Hurstville Museum & Gallery vision by providing expertise in the research and development of a dynamic and customer focused exhibition and program schedule that reflects the history, heritage and culture of the St George region.

As part of our Hurstville Museum & Gallery, you will manage the coordination of the Museum & Gallery exhibition schedule. In this role you will develop, research, install, market and evaluate high quality travelling, temporary and permanent art and history exhibitions while creating opportunities for visitor engagement.

You will work on exciting exhibitions for the community. The Georges River Art Prize is a biennial art prize that provides an opportunity for artists from all over Australia to display their best work. There are categories for painting and sculptural work, children and youth, and local artists. The Georges River Art Prize is hosted by Hurstville Museum & Gallery and is currently on display.

What We Are Looking For

* Tertiary qualifications in Museum Studies, Art Curatorship or related fields
* Demonstrated experience as a social history and visual arts curator with expertise and experience in developing high quality exhibitions
* Demonstrated experience working with artists in the development of their own exhibitions
* Demonstrated ability to undertake primary research and handle historical enquiries
* Demonstrated experience in project management, including engaging stakeholders, delegating tasks, working to deadlines and within budget
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Highly developed oral and written communication skills
* Experience in handling cultural and historical material with sensitivity
* Demonstrated commitment to EEO, WHS and the principles for a culturally diverse society
* Current Working with Children Check
