About the role The Marine Assets & Logistics Officer is an operational support role within the LSMU Ranger Program, combining three core functions: hands-on trade and technical support to the workshop and ranger workforce; coordination and administrative support to vessel masters across the TSRA fleet; and logistics and stores management across Thursday Island and outer island communities. The Marine Assets & Logistics Officer fills this gap - providing practical technical support and skills transfer that keeps equipment serviceable and rangers capable. The role is a coordinating and enabling function, ensuring masters have what they need to operate and maintain their vessels effectively. The role is also structured as a deliberate development pathway toward vessel operations and maritime compliance, positioning the officer to provide meaningful backfill for vessel masters and the Vessel Operations Manager over time. What you'll be doing: Workshop, Plant & Equipment Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs to workshop plant and machinery including compressors, generators, power tools, trailers, and lifting equipment. Conduct preventative maintenance inspections, maintain a safe and compliant workshop environment, and keep accurate records in the TSRA asset register. Vessel Fleet Coordination & Maintenance Support Coordinate routine maintenance schedules across the TSRA fleet, track and follow up defect rectification, and liaise with service providers, marine mechanics, and survey contractors. Maintain current maintenance records and compliance documentation and support rangers in pre-departure vessel preparation. Logistics, Stores & Procurement Manage receipt, storage, and dispatch of marine stores, spare parts, and field supplies. Raise purchase orders and follow up orders and freight movements in accordance with TSRA procurement policy. Coordinate freight logistics between Thursday Island and outer island communities, maintain accurate inventory records, and support end-of-year stocktake processes. Ranger Support & Community Engagement Provide logistical and technical support during field programs. Mentor rangers in equipment operation and maintenance, and engage respectfully with Torres Strait Islander communities, PBCs, and ranger groups in support of Indigenous-led sea country management. *Desired Responsibilities* Vessel Operations & AMSA Compliance Hold, or work toward obtaining, a Coxswain Certificate of Competency and participate in vessel operations as crew when required.
