Your new role
As the Supervisor Arborist, you will play a pivotal role in managing Rockhampton’s urban forest. You will oversee day-to-day operations, medium-term projects, and long-term strategic planning to ensure the health and sustainability of all tree assets. Your expertise in urban forest management will guide the development and implementation of best practices, policies, and procedures.
In this role, you will lead the urban forest maintenance team, ensuring efficient resource use and a high-performing environment. You will drive improvements in tree management, maintain a tree inventory, and provide expert arboriculture advice. Additionally, you will conduct assessments, manage projects and budgets, respond to incidents, and foster strong relationships with Council staff, Councillors, and the public.
Your work will promote the health and sustainability of Rockhampton’s urban forest, balancing preservation and risk management, and ensuring compliance with Council policies and standards.
This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).
What we are looking for
Qualification in Arboriculture (or related discipline) and/or substantial experience relevant to the position
Demonstrated project management experience
Strong leadership qualities and skills with knowledge and experience in leading a team to success
Highly motivated with a forward thinking mentality and excellent time management skills to manage multiple competing deadlines
Highly developed communication skills with the ability to problem solve, negotiate and build relationships with stakeholders

Application Criteria
Construction Industry Induction (White Card), qualification in Arboriculture (or related discipline) and/or substantial experience relevant to the position.
Ability to lead and motivate a team including experience managing workloads and projects.
Experience in the fields of arboriculture and tree maintenance practices, heavy machinery operations, irrigation and horticultural practices.
Communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide professional advice and reports to a range of stakeholders.
