Overview

Alvie Primary School is a co‑educational primary school in the Colac Otway Shire, north‑west of Colac, renowned for its dairy, potato and onion farming. The school, established in 1957, sits on 14 acres of manicured grounds that include two playgrounds, two tennis courts, football/cricket and soccer fields, a basketball court, a 1 km walking/running/riding track, rose and vegetable gardens, orchards, a 5‑acre bush play area, courtyards, Frisbee golf and shaded grass areas, a large multipurpose room, a commercial kitchen and dedicated music, multimedia and French language spaces.

Location Profile

Alvie Primary School is located in the Colac Otway Shire, north‑west of Colac. The area is renowned for dairy, potato and onion farming, and the school was originally named Alvie Consolidated School when it opened in 1957.


Selection Criteria

* SC1: Demonstrated capacity to perform duties consistent with established guidelines and frameworks, including coordinating and supporting others.
* SC2: Demonstrated capacity to work and collaborate with others in a team environment.
* SC3: Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively in a team environment, including high‑level oral and written communication skills.
* SC4: Possess the technical knowledge and expertise relevant to the position.
* SC5: Demonstrated capacity to provide advice and support to management and other staff.
* SC6: A commitment to professional learning and growth for self and others.


Role

Successful applicant will work five days a week, six hours per day. The position is an education support class role that performs tasks in accordance with school guidelines and policy under supervision and direction. Duties may include coordination of other support staff, assisting teachers with planning, maintaining data, providing health and wellbeing support up to a maximum of four students in controlled circumstances, and performing technical tasks as directed.


Responsibilities

* Provides routine support for teachers, including assistance with planning of student routines.
* Supports communication between teachers and parents.
* Communicates with teachers on routine matters related to students.
* Provides basic physical care and wellbeing support for students such as toileting, meals and lifting.
* Communicates with students to support comprehension of basic tasks and information.
* Addresses immediate behavioural presentations relating to specific students within classroom settings aligned to school policy.
* Provides basic support and supervision for individuals or groups of up to four students.
* Supports teachers in the coordination of educational programs independently or under minimal supervision, including rostering and organising the work of a team of aides.
* Provides medical intervention support to a student or students under specific conditions with appropriate training and guidance.
* Provides specialised communication support for students and teachers (e.g., AUSLAN and braille).

Conditions of Employment

This vacancy is specifically linked to Student Support Funding and is ongoing. If funding reduces or ceases during the first seven years of employment, employment may cease subject to a minimum of 12 weeks' notice.
