The Organisation

The Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF) is the leading human rights organisation in the region tackling the most serious and complex human rights challenges. Established in 1996, APF is a coalition of 26 national human rights institutions (NHRIs) across the Pacific, South-East, South, North, Central and West Asia.

The APF provides a comprehensive suite of programs and services, as well as contributing to the collective voice of human rights regionally and internationally. APF's work is supported by institutional donors who share its vision and commitment. To contribute to the APF's goal and purpose of promoting and protecting human rights across the Asia Pacific region, the APF is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Finance & Operations Manager to support its small team.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, and collaborating closely with the small team, you will provide financial oversight and ensure operational excellence to develop, implement, and improve APF's systems and infrastructure. In this finance-focused role, you will oversee all finance and operations functions for APF including fiscal management, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. Your innovative lens and forward-thinking approach will be essential to ensure compliance and operational efficiency. Your responsibilities include:

Financial budgets, plans and forecasts, including project budget development.
Oversight of accounting including Xero, chart of accounts, banking, payments, payroll, and tax.
Internal and external financial accounting and reporting, including monthly/quarterly reports, variance analyses, and donor reporting.
Support and maintenance of all operations including ICT, P&C, and related governance.

Skills Required

You are a degree-qualified finance and operations manager, ideally holding a professional accounting qualification, and experience reporting to the EU would be a strong advantage. Most likely your experience is gained in a small to medium nonprofit and you have a solid understanding of the Australian not-for-profit governance context and structures. You are hands-on and proactive and work with a keen eye for detail and a high degree of sensitivity regarding confidentiality. Additionally, you bring:

Experience with the Xero accounting system (Calxa would be desirable).
Solid experience in finance planning, budgeting/forecasting and reporting.
Deep understanding of Australian accounting standards, tax and financial regulations, and best practices.
Demonstrated competencies in collaboration, innovation, adaptability, conflict management, and risk management.
Excellent proficiency in English, with additional language(s) being highly regarded.
