An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced finance professional to step into an Assistant Financial Controller role within a large, fast paced organisation. This position supports the Financial Controller across daily financial operations, reporting, and compliance, and is ideal for someone looking to broaden their commercial and leadership exposure. This role is based on site 3 hours' drive from Darwin.
Your new role
You will oversee key financial functions including accounts payable/receivable, payroll support, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, end‑of‑month journals, and P&L preparation. The role also supports cashflow management, audit processes, supplier payments, credit control, and the continuous improvement of financial systems and internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain accurate ledgers, reconciliations, journals, EOM processes, and daily banking.
* Review AP/AR, manage payments, and ensure compliance with credit policies.
* Support payroll checks and compliance requirements (PAYG, GST, Super, Workers Comp).
* Prepare financial reports, forecasts, cashflow statements, and assist with annual budgeting.
* Contribute to audits and ensure financial procedures meet organisational standards.
* Provide financial support to department heads to improve operational profitability.
What you'll need to succeed
* Tertiary qualifications in Finance or Accounting
* 3+ years’ experience in management accounting or a similar role
* Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders
* Advanced Excel/MS Office skills and experience with payroll, BAS, GST, and AP/AR functions
