The Role
As the Senior Database Administrator, you will be a key member of the IT Infrastructure team, responsible for the ongoing support, administration, and optimisation of mission-critical SQL databases. You'll work across a diverse and evolving environment, ensuring the availability, integrity, and performance of databases that support 24/7 retail operations. Reporting directly to the Infrastructure Manager, you'll play a vital role in projects, upgrades, migrations, and performance tuning initiatives.
You
You're an experienced and highly skilled SQL Server expert who thrives in fast-paced, enterprise-scale environments. With a strong focus on performance, security, and reliability, you bring deep expertise in database design, development, troubleshooting, and administration. You take ownership of your work, communicate effectively across teams, and demonstrate a proactive mindset when it comes to solving complex challenges.
Responsibilities
* Administer and maintain SQL Server environments (2008R2–2022) including clustering and AlwaysOn availability.
* Design, manage and support databases for 24/7 business-critical systems.
* Troubleshoot and resolve performance, security, and integrity issues.
* Build and maintain SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS components.
* Optimize SQL queries and implement performance tuning strategies.
* Collaborate with IT teams and stakeholders to deliver projects and system improvements.
* Maintain documentation for infrastructure procedures, builds, and processes.
* Ensure adherence to ITIL, security protocols, and data integrity standards.
* Manage backup and recovery processes for large-scale databases (>4TB).
* Liaise with vendors and internal teams to ensure uptime and performance.
