About the Role
As a Signalling Design Manager your impact will be in the management of the signalling design team across all phases of the project, providing technical services and acting as a subject matter expert for signalling design.
You will be responsible for:
o Leading the signalling design team across all phases of the project, from concept through to detailed design and handover.
o Ensuring designs comply with applicable railway standards, codes, and safety regulations.
o Providing technical guidance, mentorship, and competency development for signalling engineers and designers.
o Reviewing and approving technical deliverables, including drawings, specifications, and reports.
o Coordinating and liaising with internal teams, contractors, and clients to facilitate design integration and resolution of technical issues.
o Working closely with the Project Managers to maintain project schedules, resource plans, and budgets for the signalling design function.
o Supporting project risk management by identifying design risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
o Contributing to business development and client engagement through technical expertise and market knowledge.
What do we need from you
Ideally, you will have 15 years’ professional experience in railway signalling with specialist knowledge of conventional signal design in adherence with Australian railway standards and guidelines with demonstrated people leadership capability.
In addition, you will also have:
o Relevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical/Electronic or Mechatronics Engineering
o Certificate(s) of competency from rail transport operators such as MTM, VLINE, ARTC (etc), level 2 highly desired.
o Accreditation from Engineers Australia and membership with IRSE
o Strong technical knowledge of conventional signal design principles, ETCS and whole of life project management experience
o In depth knowledge of all systems that interface to signalling such as, rolling stock, power, communications, track and civil, etc.
o Ability to people lead signal design engineers and/or project teams to successfully meet or exceed client expectations
o Excellent understanding of document and design control processes
o Strong planning, organisation and problem-solving abilities
o Strong computer, software and systems literacy
o Excellent client relationship management skill as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills
