Nova Jones is a specialist cladding and façade delivery business operating within a wider group, providing high-quality external building solutions for residential and mixed-use projects. As a supply chain entity, Nova Jones manages the end-to-end delivery of cladding systems, including the sourcing, coordination, and installation of materials.

The business works closely with builders, consultants, and suppliers to ensure that design intent, compliance, and buildability are achieved. Its supply chain activities span multiple project stages, from early design coordination and material selection to construction delivery and project completion, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, on time, and to the required quality standards.

Position Description

This Junior / Assistant Accountant role has been created as a direct result of the expansion of the business. The Group is seeking a dynamic, hands-on, technically strong, and experienced corporate accountant to support the growing and diversified business portfolio.

The initial primary focus of this role is to assist the Finance Controller to establish the financial operations of a newly established cladding business, setting up robust accounting systems, controls, and reporting frameworks from the ground up. This includes ensuring full financial and regulatory compliance from commencement.

Beyond the initial setup phase, the role offers significant opportunity for further development and growth, particularly from a business information, systems integration, and strategic support perspective, contributing to long-term group-wide improvements and innovation.

Duties &Responsibilities

* Business and Financial Setup (Primary Focus)

o Assist Financial Controller to complete the end to end financial setup for the business including:

- Chart of accounts design

- Banking, AR/AP, Payroll, Stock control

- Financial policies and procedures

o Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax, and regulatory requirements from day one.

* Hands-On Accounting Operations

o Actively perform daily accounting functions and report to Finance Controller, including:

- Accounts Receivable

- Accounts Payable

- Payroll processing

- Bank reconciliation

- End of Month Reporting and adjustments (General journals adjustments)

- Balance Sheet reconciliations

* Financial Management & Reporting

o Assist with monthly management accounts, cash flow reports, end of month financial statements.

o Ensure timely and accurate reporting of project financial performance, including cost-to-complete and margin tracking.

o Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and reforecasting processes.

* Project & Cost Control

o Assisting with financial controls for the expenditure of the business, including seeking and monitoring budget approvals, cost tracking, and variance analysis.

o Work closely with various stakeholders to ensure financial discipline across all projects.

* Compliance, Tax & Governance

o Ensure compliance with statutory obligations including GST, BAS, PAYG, payroll tax, and company tax requirements.

o Assist and communicate with external accountants, auditors, or advisors to ensure timely statutory reporting and audits.

o Assist to maintain strong internal financial controls, policies, and procedures across the business.

o Ensure compliance with financing agreements, lender reporting, and covenant requirements

* Adhoc & Operational Support

o Respond flexibly to ad-hoc accounting, compliance, and operational tasks as required to ensure smooth business operations.

o Assist in resolving financial or system issues in a timely and practical manner

* Systems & Team Work

o Work with various stakeholders internal or externally to ensure business operation systems are efficient and look for solution for operation optimisation when required.

* Continuous Improvement

o Drive continuous improvement in financial reporting, controls, and processes across the business.

o Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve automation, and enhance financial visibility.

o Support integration of finance processes with project management and operational systems.

o Contribute to the development and refinement of company financial policies and procedures.

* Role Flexibility

o This role is intentionally flexible and dynamic.

Key Performance Indicators

* Financial Reporting & Accuracy

o Monthly management accounts delivered accurately and on time each month.

* Budgeting & Forecasting

o Group budgets and forecasts prepared within agreed timelines.

* Project Financial Performance

o Effective monitoring of project budgets, margins, and cost-to-complete.

* Cash Flow & Working Capital

o Maintain healthy group cash flow through effective debtor, creditor, and funding management.

* Compliance & Governance

o 100% compliance with statutory reporting, tax obligations, and audit requirements.

Skills & Experiences

The successful candidate will demonstrate with below skills & experience:

* Qualification in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce or any relevant study

* CA or CPA qualification (or working towards) or any relevant study highly desirable.

* Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in finance roles

* Strong understanding of project accounting, cost control, and cash flow management.

* Hands-on, adaptable and proactive working style

* Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

* Sound knowledge of Australian tax, GST, payroll, and statutory compliance.

* Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate financial data into business insights.

* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

* High level of integrity, attention to detail, and professionalism
