About the role 
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Laboratory Manager to lead the operational support of our laboratory-based medical research activities. This pivotal role is responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and compliant use of medical research facilities and equipment, while also providing expert guidance, training, and support to researchers and laboratory users. 
The Laboratory Manager will play a key role in maintaining high standards of research integrity by ensuring that all laboratory operations align with relevant regulatory requirements, best practice laboratory standards, and work health and safety (WHS) protocols. 
- Demonstrated experience in managing PC2 Laboratory operations and infrastructure (including scientific equipment). 
- Comprehensive knowledge of OGTR (Office of the Gene Technology Regulator) and PC2 Physical Containment standards / Biosafety regulations. 
- Strong understanding of the NHMRC (National Health and Medical Research Council) codes and guidelines relating to laboratory operations. 
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in biology, life or medical science and relevant demonstrated experience in a similar role, or other equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 
- Demonstrated experience in the diverse aspects of managing the operations of a research laboratory, including provision of expert technical and logistical advice on research facilities, infrastructure, equipment, and instruments. 
- Proven technical expertise in specialist areas aligned with laboratory operations and research activities, with proven ability to investigate, analyse and resolve complex technical, operational, and logistical issues. 
- Demonstrated ability to provide instruction and training to others, including in the safe use of general laboratory equipment and instruments, including safe laboratory techniques, risk assessments, safety procedures and equipment. 
- Strong understanding of Work Health and Safety legislation, codes of practices and regulations. 
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement operational plans, procedures and establish priorities, using initiative to achieve organisational goals/objectives. 
- Personal alignment with Ingham Institute values. 
- Excellent interpersonal communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to tailor communication to suit the relevant audience. 
- Solid solutions focused, problem-solving skills. 
- Proven team player, who takes own initiative in supporting and achieving team goals/objectives. 
- Experience working in a not-for-profit organisation.
