SALARY: A minimum of $827.40 per week + 12% employer contribution to superannuation
REPORTING TO: Trees and Streetscapes Supervisor, Gardens Supervisor or Parks Supervisor
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Temporary Full Time - up to 4 years
DIRECTORATE: Infrastructure, Planning & Environment
CLASSIFICATION: Apprentice
THE POSITION: Assist the Streetscapes and Gardens Team in the development and maintenance of parks, landscapes and gardens.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under direction, assist in the maintenance of the Albury parks, reserves and landscapes
- Construction of landscapes in the Albury City area
- Maintenance and planting of trees
- Provide advice to the public and visitors in a polite and effective manner
- Use all plant and equipment in a safe and competent manner
- Ensure all routine maintenance to plant and equipment used is completed
- Use relevant skills to assist other areas within the City Landscapes Service Cluster
- Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor within the employee's skill, competence and training
- Adhere to WHS legislation and AlburyCity policies and procedures regarding WHS
- Observe AlburyCity policies regarding day-to-day operations including Equal Employment Opportunity, Dress Code and Code of Conduct
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Minimum completion of Year 10
- Class C (standard) Driver's Licence or Provisional/Learner Licence (required)

- Knowledge and skills related to horticultural tools and equipment, safety, and basic literacy

SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Basic knowledge in the use of horticultural tools and equipment
- General interest in parks and gardens and horticulture
- Understanding of safe work practices
- Fundamental literacy skills in receiving and executing instructions
Employment Conditions
- Based on a 38 hour week, Monday to Friday, 7.00am to 4.00pm, with an RDO as per AlburyCity guidelines. Times may vary due to operational needs.
- Enrolment and study towards a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens or equivalent as part of an AlburyCity Apprenticeship; study outside standard hours.
- Temporary four-year appointment; formal Apprenticeship regulated by the Apprenticeship & Traineeship Act 2001.
- Adverse Working Conditions Allowance as per Local Government (State) Award Level 1.
- Compulsory uniform; smart and professional presentation required at all times.
- Outdoor environment with varying temperatures; high physical activity; WHS standards are integral; medical assessment required.
- Vaccination requirements include Hepatitis A and B.
- Subject to alcohol and other drug testing and pre-employment/audiometric assessments.
- Location: Landscape Services Depot, Smollet Street, Albury, with frequent site visits.
