Role overview
The Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) is a support role that assists teachers in delivering planned education programs and encourages a supportive and inclusive learning environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The AIEO acts as a liaison between the community and school to develop an educational program relevant to both educational and cultural needs. They provide mentoring and pastoral care to encourage participation and achievement at school, and offer support and advice to schools and teachers on the management program of students at risk. They design and implement behaviour management plans, maintain records, and provide information to parents. They also facilitate community contribution to school policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, conduct interviews or home liaison visits, manage class resources, and assist with preparation and maintenance of the learning environment.
Responsibilities
* Assist teachers in delivering planned education programs and support inclusive learning for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Qualifications and eligibility
* Eligibility: Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under section 50d of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).
* Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
* Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start.
* Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
