What you will be doing
Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this role will be responsible for:
* Preparing timely legal and strategic advice on a wide range of complex matters on issues relevant to the VEC's portfolio including in the areas of statutory interpretation, administrative law and commercial law.
* Undertaking research and analysis at an advanced professional level on complex and sensitive legal matters.
* Appearing or instructing counsel in proceedings in courts and tribunals.
* Supporting the wider functions of the Electoral Integrity team, including working with its Advisors on projects which require legal and strategic input.
What you will bring to the role:
* Demonstrated experience in directing legal research and developing innovative responses to new and emerging issues.
* Demonstrated experience troubleshooting problems, identifying, influencing and negotiating solutions, and recognising when change in approach is needed.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with a wide range of people including clients, lawyers, and other staff within an agency.
