The Taungurung Land and Waters Council (TLaWC) is the voice of the Taungurung people a people with a strong sense of shared identity self‑determining in the management of Country and culture.

As a Registered Aboriginal Party TLaWC upholds the interests of the Taungurung people with emphasis on economic, social and cultural well‑being.

TLaWCs focus is to preserve the past, protect the present and strengthen the future of the Taungurung Nation which occupies a large part of Central Victoria.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Full‑time position, Alexandra, Victoria. Term: Ongoing.


YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

* Oversee the development and implementation of a RAP strategy that sets the vision and direction of the RAP team for the management of Taungurung Aboriginal Heritage.
* Create an inspiring and supportive team environment with open communication.
* Successfully coordinate the delivery of the legislative responsibilities of the Registered Aboriginal Party under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006.
* Work to expand opportunities to activate rights outlined in the Burra Charter and UNDRIP 2007.
* Streamline systems and policies related to archaeological heritage management.
* Annual budgeting planning and strategic goal setting for the RAP team.
* Upskill and train staff to ensure a highly skilled cultural heritage team and diverse career development pathways.
* Establish and maintain culturally informed research partnerships and programs in collaboration with other TLaWC senior leaders.
* Provide specialist technical advice and advocacy in engaging with a range of stakeholders on cultural heritage management matters.
* Identify external funding opportunities relating to the documentation protection and management of cultural heritage.
* Lead and support implementation of an effective OHSMS through allocation of required resources. Direct and support employees to contribute toOHSMS effectiveness.


YOU WILL HAVE

* Strong leadership skills.
* Relevant qualifications such as archaeology, heritage adviser, community development, cultural and natural resource management, conservation and land management are desired but not required.
* Proven experience in developing and implementing strategic goals for business, departments and teams.
* Knowledge of cultural heritage legislation including the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and CHMP processes.
* Proven ability to work with Traditional Owners.
