The Employer
Our clients are a forward-thinking family farming business located in Narrogin, WA, successfully operating a wheat and sheep enterprise. Currently, they manage a cropping program covering 2,000 acres, with plans to expand to 5,000 acres in the coming years. This is an exciting opportunity to join their team as they seek an experienced and motivated cropping manager. The ideal candidate will lead our cropping operations and help us achieve sustainable growth.
The Role
As the Cropping Manager, you will play a crucial role in planning and executing our broadacre cropping program. You will report directly to the General Manager and the Directors and will have the autonomy to manage daily operations.
Your responsibilities will include developing and implementing annual cropping programs that encompass seeding, spraying, fertilising, and harvesting. You will manage the cropping budgets and ensure expenses align with agreed targets, operate and maintain broadacre machinery, and monitor soil health and crop yields while ensuring safe and sustainable farming practices. Additionally, you will report to management on progress, risks, and opportunities.
The Offer
A competitive salary is being offered, which includes a well-maintained work vehicle and a family home featuring three bedrooms and two bathrooms, complete with air conditioning. Utilities will also be included. Additionally, there is a cropping incentive scheme linked to performance based on yield and acreage targets. The farm is located just ten minutes from Narrogin, a country town with a strong sense of community and sufficient infrastructure and services to ensure a comfortable lifestyle and job opportunities for a partner. The area has a hospital and multiple schooling options, including independent primary schools, a public high school, an agricultural college, and childcare facilities.
Recreational facilities include a leisure center with an indoor heated pool, gym, and courts for basketball and squash, as well as synthetic hockey turf. The town also boasts a library, arts events, galleries, museums, and heritage trails.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in broadacre cropping operations with crops such as wheat, barley, oats and lupins as well as the following skills and attributes
- Strong practical knowledge of farm machinery and GPS technologies.
- Financial awareness and ability to manage cropping budgets.
- Leadership skills with a collaborative, hands-on approach.
- Good communication skills
- A commitment to workplace safety and operational excellence.
- Tertiary or TAFE qualifications in Agribusiness/Agronomy (advantageous but not essential).
