Sales Estimator / Internal Sales – Steel Fabrication (Canberra / Queanbeyan Region)
We’re a growing, locally owned steel fabrication business based in the Canberra / Queanbeyan region looking for a Sales Estimator / Internal Sales professional to join our team.
This role suits someone who enjoys turning opportunities into work, not just preparing estimates. You’ll be responsible for reviewing drawings, preparing quotes, following up opportunities and building relationships with builders, contractors and project managers.
You’ll work closely with our planning and production teams to ensure quotes are accurate, competitive and aligned with our fabrication capabilities.
This role could also suit someone currently working in fabrication or construction who wants to transition off the tools into an estimating and client-facing position.
What you'll be doing
* Reviewing architectural and technical drawings, specifications and tender documents
* Preparing accurate cost estimates and client quotations
* Identifying and pursuing new quoting opportunities
* Following up submitted quotes and building relationships to help convert opportunities into secured work
* Liaising with builders, contractors and project managers throughout the quoting process
* Attending site visits and conducting site measures when required
* Working with internal teams to ensure quotes reflect real production capability
* Assisting with project handover once jobs are secured
* Maintaining accurate records of quotes and project information
What we're looking for
* Experience in estimating within construction, sheet metal or steel fabrication (junior to intermediate considered)
* Someone commercially minded who enjoys winning work, not just pricing it
* Ability to interpret drawings and extract key project information
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
* Ability to manage multiple quotes and deadlines
* Good computer skills and confidence with estimating software
* Current driver’s licence
* Australian work rights
Highly regarded
* Experience in sheet metal or light steel fabrication
* Previous experience in sales estimating or internal sales
* Existing relationships within the construction industry
* White Card and site experience
* Trade backgrounds such as boilermakers, sheet metal workers, welders or installers looking to transition into estimating are encouraged to apply
