The Opportunity
Austal Ships Henderson is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this leadership role, you will oversee and contribute to the mechanical design and drafting of vessels throughout all stages of development—from initial concept to final delivery. You will play a critical role in ensuring engineering excellence, timely project execution, and alignment with Austal’s quality standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements. Your expertise will guide the team in delivering innovative, cost-effective, and compliant solutions across a diverse portfolio of maritime projects.
What’s involved
Lead the production of accurate, high-quality engineering documentation that meets procedural, regulatory, and audit standards.
Set and uphold high standards for design accuracy, detail, and consistency in line with Austal’s engineering and quality benchmarks.
Monitor project schedules and ensure timely delivery of mechanical engineering outputs without compromising quality.
Ensure construction deliverables are aligned with design intent and project timelines.
Facilitate effective task delegation and information flow within the engineering team and across departments.
Identify and implement innovative, cost-effective solutions to engineering challenges.
Contribute to strategic planning and development of engineering best practices.
You’ll need
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
Proficient in AutoCAD with advanced drafting and design capabilities.
Strong understanding of production processes and the practical application of mechanical design in a manufacturing environment.
Experience in machinery selection and overseeing detailed mechanical designs and technical drawings.
Ability to develop and manage detailed inputs for integrated design schedules.
Proven experience supervising engineering teams, including goal setting, mentoring, and performance management.
5+ years experience in a similar capacity.
