We are seeking an Assistant Building Surveyor to support the Municipal Building Surveyor in providing efficient administration and effective delivery of the regulatory functions defined in the Building Act 1993 and Council Plan.
The Role
As the Assistant Building Surveyor with Latrobe City Council, you will provide a professional and approachable customer focused advisory service to all customers and work towards gaining registration as a building surveyor with the Building & Plumbing Commission.
This position will include the following key responsibilities:
* Provide specialist technical advice on building control matters,
* Support to the Municipal Building Surveyor by carrying out accurate and timely technical assessments of report and consent applications, temporary structure applications and place of public entertainment applications.
* Assist with the carrying out of compliance audits, including the drafting of building notices and building orders.
* Undertake and complete audits of essential safety measures.
* Prepare accurate and timely reports, correspondence and other relevant documents for the consideration of the Municipal Building Surveyor.
* Assess a limited number of building permits, conduct mandatory building inspections and guarantee that appropriate action is undertaken to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications.
* Respond promptly and courteously to enquiries from internal and external stakeholders, in line with Council policies and procedures.
Position initially Fixed-Term full-time for duration of specified period, with potential to make it permanent part-time upon expiration of contract.
You will need:
* Advanced Diploma or Degree in Building Surveying, or currently studying in building surveying, to become registered as a Building Practitioner in the class of Building Surveyor.
* Experience in the building industry, and an understanding of Local Government and its role in the building industry is desirable, but not essential.
* Sound knowledge of Building Act 1993 and the Building Regulations 2018, National Construction Code 2022, relevant Australian Standards and able to apply these to the work being completed throughout Council.
* Proven skills to solve problems related to building matters, including investigation and assessment of complaints and other tasks in a professional manner.
* Demonstrated ability to plan own work schedule, set priorities and organise time frames to meet objectives.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
* Ability to effectively communicate, gain co-operation and develop networks with internal and external customers, stakeholders and the general public in regard to building related matters.
* Current valid Victorian driver's license.
