About the Opportunity
Hatchit Studios is seeking a
Senior Satellite Communications Engineer
to support a major
satellite modernisation program
within the Australian Federal Government.
This role will play a critical part in the
design, deployment, and ongoing support of satellite communication services
, transitioning from legacy
GEO infrastructure
to emerging
NGSO technologies
across geographically dispersed and remote locations.
Due to the operational requirements of the role, this position is
100% onsite in Canberra
and involves
regular travel
to support deployments and maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, implement, and maintain satellite communication systems across
GEO and NGSO platforms
* Support high-availability
WAN and satellite-based connectivity solutions
for remote and global sites
* Perform RF and microwave system design, testing, optimisation, and troubleshooting
* Contribute to
high-level technical designs
, technology evaluations, and implementation planning
* Support the deployment, commissioning, and maintenance of satellite terminals
* Work closely with
architecture, cyber assurance, and regional technical teams
* Produce high-quality technical documentation, including
HLDs, as-built designs, and maintenance plans
* Travel to remote and geographically dispersed locations as required
Skills & Experience Required
* 5+ years' experience
in satellite communications engineering
* Demonstrated hands-on experience with
GEO and NGSO satellite systems
* Strong background in
RF and microwave communications
* Experience designing and supporting
high-availability WAN services
* Proven ability to produce clear, professional technical documentation
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Willingness and ability to travel to remote and challenging environments
* Qualification in
Electronics or Communications Engineering
(Degree or Diploma)
Highly Desirable
* Experience supporting
government or defence satellite communications programs
* Ability to mentor or provide technical guidance to junior engineers or field technicians
