Disaster Relief Australia (DRA) unites the skills and experience of veterans and volunteers to help communities prepare for and recover from disaster. Operating nationally, DRA relies on a highly capable, trained and deployment-ready workforce to deliver safe, effective disaster response across all hazard types.
We are seeking a Training Director to provide enterprise-level leadership and strategic stewardship of DRA's national training ecosystem.
This is a three-month maximum-term contract for a newly created role, offering a unique opportunity for a senior leader to deliver rapid capability uplift, strengthen governance and readiness, and position the organisation for sustainable long-term training maturity. While the position is offered on a maximum-term basis, DRA would hope that circumstances may evolve to enable the role to transition to a permanent appointment beyond the initial term.

About the Role
The Training Director is the organisation's senior leader responsible for training strategy, governance. The role owns the training system end-to-end — from enterprise strategy and assurance through to execution oversight — ensuring DRA's volunteers and employees are trained, credentialed and deployable at scale.
This role balances strategic leadership with hands‐on problem solving, stepping in where required to unblock risk, stabilise systems and drive measurable improvements within a fixed‐term horizon.

What You'll Do
* Lead DRA's national training strategy, governance and capability direction
* Oversee workforce readiness, deployability and credential alignment
* Strengthen training governance, assurance and risk controls
* Provide leadership across the national training function
* Sponsor training systems, LMS and data optimisation initiatives
* Deliver executive‐level reporting on training performance and readiness
* Partner with Field Operations, DRRTs and Organisational Support functions
* Intervene directly where capability gaps pose operational or reputational risk
What You Will Bring
* Demonstrated experience in enterprise‐level capability or training leadership
* Strong governance, systems and risk management capability
* Experience leading large, distributed or volunteer‐based workforces
* Ability to operate confidently in ambiguity and high‐consequence environments
* Executive presence with the ability to influence senior leaders and Boards
* Strong strategic thinking combined with delivery orientation
* Confidence stabilising and improving systems under operational pressure
* Understanding of emergency management, surge or preparedness models (highly regarded)

Contract Details
* Contract Type: Maximum term (3 months) with potential to transition to a permanent appointment
* Location: Flexible / National/ Hybrid with the ability to travel interstate when needed
