We are seeking a skilled and motivated Commis Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team.
About the Role
* Assist with food preparation, cooking, and presentation across various sections, learning and growing in a supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Preparing meal ingredients, washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables and fruits.
* Preparing basic salads and sauces as directed by the Executive Chef.
* Receiving deliveries and verifying items are delivered and of good quality.
* Taking inventory of restaurant supplies and notifying the Executive Chef of low supplies.
* Discarding expired or spoiled items from stockrooms, refrigerators, and freezers.
* Performing cleaning duties and ensuring workstations are sanitized.
* Plating and presenting meal items as instructed by the Executive Chef.
* Understanding and helping manage costs, including labor, food, and operational expenses.
* Being reliable and self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
* Uploading strict health, hygiene, and safety standards.
* Planning and managing food quantities and plating requirements.
Requirements
* Qualifications in Commercial Cookery/Culinary Arts from a registered training provider.
* Proven hospitality hotel kitchen experience.
* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg), bend, and kneel.
* Good reading, writing, and basic math skills.
* Positive demeanor with clear English communication.
* Proven ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* Willingness to work collaboratively within a multicultural team.
* Flexible to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays.
* Comprehensive knowledge of kitchen hygiene practices and WH&S standards.
* Demonstrated experience in a 4- or 5-star hotel (desirable).
* Right to work in Australia.
