About the role
We are seeking an experienced and talented Head Chef to join our dynamic team at Fridas Mexican Cantina in Kiama NSW 2533. Fridas Mexican Cantina was opened in 2024 as a breakfast and lunch Cantina, and has recently expanded into opening for dinner service. As the Head Chef, you will be responsible for leading our kitchen and creating exceptional Mexican cuisine for our valued customers. This is a full-time role with opportunities for development and career growth within our organisation.
What you'll be doing
1. Oversee the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring a smooth workflow and high-quality food preparation
2. Develop and refine our menu, drawing inspiration from traditional Mexican flavours and techniques
3. Manage and mentor a team of talented chefs and line cooks, fostering a positive and collaborative kitchen environment
4. Implement and maintain strict food safety and hygiene standards
5. Collaborate with the management team to enhance the overall dining experience for our customers
6. Monitor and control kitchen expenses to ensure cost-effective operations
What we're looking for
1. Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Head Chef or in a senior culinary role within the hospitality industry
2. Demonstrated expertise in Mexican cuisine and a deep understanding of traditional cooking methods and ingredients
3. Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate your team
4. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a keen eye for detail
5. Proficient in food cost control, inventory management, and budget planning
6. Passion for creating innovative and visually appealing dishes that showcase the vibrant flavours of Mexican cuisine
7. Proven track record of maintaining high food safety and hygiene standards
8. Must possess Australian work rights and be legally authorised to work in Australia
9. Minimum Certificate III or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent culinary qualification
