Permanent part-time (0.6 FTE) position commencing Term 1, **** at Leda Primary School (PS), a suburb of Kwinana, Western Australia.
Leda Primary School is an Independent Public School (IPS) with strong links to the Leda Education Support Centre, catering for students with special needs.
About the Role
The Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) will assist teachers with delivering planned education programs and fostering an inclusive learning environment. The successful applicant will act as a liaison between the community and the school, develop culturally relevant education programmes, support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students—particularly those at risk—through mentoring and pastoral care, and contribute to the well-being and behavioural management of students.
Responsibilities
Assist teachers in delivering culturally responsive education programmes.
Liaise with community, parents and carers to support student engagement.
Provide mentoring and pastoral care to at-risk Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Support the implementation of health, wellbeing and behavioural management programmes.
Assist with the delivery and evaluation of education programmes.
Qualifications & Skills
Good written and oral communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Knowledge of culturally responsive strategies that support wellbeing, engagement and learning.
Understanding of building culturally safe environments.
Eligibility
Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or holder of a valid visa with work rights.
Valid Working With Children Check.
Consent to a National Criminal History Check.
