About the role
The Mechanic (Heavy) plays a crucial role in the Plant & Fleet Unit, responsible for the repair, servicing, compliance, and maintenance of our fleet. This position ensures that all vehicles and equipment are safe, efficient, and compliant with relevant regulations, providing high-quality service to our community.
Your responsibilities include applying appropriate maintenance and repair procedures, conducting registration checks, supervising apprentices, and contributing to the overall operational efficiency of the workshop. This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.
Requirements and qualifications
* A Certificate III qualification in Heavy Commercial Mechanical technology or related field, with ongoing professional development
* A current NSW Fair Trading Tradesperson Certificate
* HAVIS Vehicle Examiners Certificate - Heavy Vehicle
* A valid Construction General Induction Card - NSW SafeWork or equivalent
* A current Class MR Drivers Licence
* Recent experience in the repair of late model Fleet vehicles and equipment including hydraulics, auto electrics & pneumatics
* Knowledge of vehicle asset management systems (IPS or similar) and familiarity with email and internet applications
* Knowledge of parts and material acquisitions and procurement systems
* Knowledge and understanding of industry standards, legislative requirements, principles and trends
The commencing salary for this position is up to $76k per year. Central Coast Council provides progression opportunities up to a maximum salary of $81k on completion of assessment of skills and performance plus 12% superannuation + $19.49 per week working allowance.

We have three permanent full-time roles available. This role offers access to a 9 day fortnight and is located at Council\'s Charmhaven Depot & Woy Woy Depot (Peninsula - 2256).

Central Coast Council is located on the northern fringe of Sydney, just an hour from Newcastle. The Central Coast is a fast-growing region and a large Local Government Area in NSW.
