Details: An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Debt Management Officer to join Shared Services Finance within the Chief Minister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate.
In this role, you will play a key part in delivering effective and compassionate debt management services across the ACT Government. Working within a shared services environment, you will manage a portfolio of accounts, engage directly with customers, and apply sound judgement to achieve compliant, fair and sustainable debt recovery outcomes.
You will bring strong communication skills, resilience, and an ability to negotiate payment arrangements while considering hardship, vulnerability, and legislative obligations. This position offers meaningful work that balances financial accountability with positive customer experiences.

Eligibility/Other Requirements
Proven experience in debt management, debt recovery
Confidence in making outbound calls and negotiating payment outcomes with empathy and professionalism
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a customer-focused approach
Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and guidelines (e.g. Privacy, ACCC/ASIC Debt Collection Guidelines, hardship assessments)
Experience working with financial management systems (e.g. Oracle R12, Collexus or similar) and Microsoft Office applications
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities with minimal supervision
A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders
Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of up to 12 months with the possibility of permanency. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
