The Opportunity
Expressions of Interest are invited from current permanent and fixed term employees of the WA public sector to act in the role of Engagement, Education and Communications Manager.
This is a five-month opportunity with the possibility of extension.
Role Description
The Engagement, Education and Communications Manager provides strategic leadership of the Commission's communications function, ensuring clear, consistent and high-quality information is delivered to internal and external audiences.
The role is responsible for shaping and implementing the organisation's media strategy, overseeing social media and digital communications, leading communications reporting to support evidence-based decision-making, and the production of key reports and publications.
The Electoral Education Centre also forms part of the division and is responsible for educating students and members of the public about our systems of voting.
This position leads, supervises and manages the Electoral Education Centre and staff.
The role also guides the development of corporate messaging, supports crisis and issues management, and leads the delivery of the Commission's rebrand strategy to strengthen organisational identity and public confidence.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership across the Community Engagement, Electoral Education Centre and Communications functions, including people and resource management.
Develop and implement media strategy, including proactive media engagement, issues management and coordinated messaging.
Develop and deliver communication, education and engagement strategies that support electoral participation, particularly for communities facing barriers.
Oversee internal and external communications, including crisis communication, publications, corporate messaging and communication planning for election events.
Manage social media strategy and content, ensuring accurate, accessible and timely information across digital channels.
Lead communications reporting and insights, monitoring performance, identifying trends and informing continuous improvement.
Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across the organisation and with external partners, providing expert advice on communication matters.
Contribute to election preparation and delivery in line with project plans and organisational priorities.
Manage and support 1-2 staff, delegating tasks, providing guidance, feedback and day-to-day leadership.
Selection Criteria
Comprehensive knowledge and skills in contemporary communications channels and methods, and the ability to keep current knowledge on emerging communication trends and use.
Expert verbal and written communication skills, together with the ability to engage, liaise and influence a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
Highly proficient writing and editing skills with the ability to craft communications under pressure and provide effective strategic communications and stakeholder advice.
Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to establish and cultivate strong working relationships with senior management and external stakeholders.
