Maintenance Carpenter – SAHA Housing Jobs | Western Suburbs
Full-time roles | Steady, meaningful work in a growing maintenance team
Pine Construction & Interiors is expanding its maintenance division under a major contract with Downer/Spotless, delivering essential repairs across SA Housing Authority properties. This is long-term, stable work where your skills genuinely improve people's safety, comfort and daily living conditions.
These are full-time employee roles (not subcontracting). Successful applicants will be servicing SAHA homes across Adelaide's Western Suburbs, which is where the majority of our work is based.

About the Role
You will be carrying out a wide range of general maintenance and carpentry tasks within SA Housing Authority homes. Work includes:
* Repairs to doors, windows, cupboards, gates, fences and skirtings
* Internal fit-off work, minor patching and plaster repairs
* Plasterboard repairs and flushing
* External timber repairs including fascias, eaves, verandahs, fencing and posts
* Lock and hardware replacement
* Painting or touch-up work where required
* Securing and boarding up homes when needed
* Disability modifications such as grab rails and handrails
* Recording job details through clear before and after photos and job cards
* Working respectfully in tenant-occupied homes
* Following all safety requirements including SWMS, PPE and site inductions
We are currently introducing Fieldwire by Hilti across our maintenance team. You will use it for job notes, photos and updates as the rollout continues. Full training and support will be provided. The system is designed to make your day more organised and straightforward.
There will also be times where you work alongside another maintenance carpenter for larger or safety-critical jobs. We schedule this as needed to make sure the work is completed safely, efficiently and to SAHA standards. Most days are independent, but you won't be on your own when a job requires two sets of hands.
You will also be responsible for booking in your own jobs with tenants and planning your day based on the work orders assigned to you. The role offers strong autonomy, provided jobs are completed on time and to the quality expected under the SAHA contract.

What to Expect on Site
This is real-world maintenance work that genuinely makes a difference. At times, it can be challenging.
Some SAHA homes are in poor condition, and some tenants may be dealing with mental health difficulties, substance misuse or financial hardship. Most tenants are respectful, but there will be situations where you need to stay calm, follow procedure and keep safety front of mind. You may also work in environments that are unclean or where emotions run high.
We are looking for steady, respectful tradies who take people as they come and treat every home with dignity. You will have clear processes to follow, support from our office and a team that won't leave you on your own. If you've worked in insurance repairs, community housing or reactive maintenance before, you'll be familiar with the environment. Some homes are tough, some are straightforward, and all of them are important.

Vacancy Work
Alongside day-to-day responsive repairs, you will also complete Vacancy work when SAHA homes become empty. These jobs are usually more straightforward and structured, with tasks such as:
* Repairing doors, skirtings and internal timbers
* Patching walls and preparing surfaces
* Replacing damaged fixtures
* Making the home safe, secure and ready for reallocation
Vacancy work is generally cleaner and easier than tenant-occupied repairs. It gives you time to work through a property methodically and contributes to the overall upkeep of SAHA housing stock.

What We're Looking For
* Certificate III in Carpentry (or equivalent trade qualification)
* Solid experience in residential maintenance or repair work
* A reliable vehicle — we provide a fuel card
* Your own tools suitable for day-to-day maintenance tasks
* White Card (Construction Induction)
* Current Police Check and Working With Children Check, or willingness to obtain them (we will support this)
* Willingness to complete the Downer/Spotless induction for site access
* A steady, reliable approach to work and the ability to follow processes on compliance-driven jobs
* Respectful communication with tenants, supervisors and the office team
* Pride in doing the job properly the first time
