Applications are invited from suitably qualified instrumental music teachers for a 0.4 EFT Instrumental Music Coordinator in the metropolitan North Eastern Victoria Region (NEVR). The role description and key selection criteria are included below.

The position is effective from 6 October 2025 to 9 April 2027.

The 0.4 allocation will be based at the NEVR Music Office, Mullauna Secondary College, Springfield Road Mitcham. The position requires the successful applicant to be available for the position for a full day to allow for appropriate guidance and training in the role.

The successful applicant will be a member of the metro NEVR Instrumental Music Team and will work collaboratively with the metro NEVR principals' reference group and the NEVR Service Support Branch Manager, to provide support to schools to improve instrumental music program delivery, including provision of professional learning for teachers.

Role


NEVR Instrumental Coordinator Key Responsibilities

* Contribute to innovation by investigating, identifying, and recommending opportunities for improvement in instrumental music.
* Contribute to the development of team and project plans through specialised knowledge in policy, programs, and initiatives in instrumental music.
* Ensure that the allocated tasks/projects and responsibilities undertaken are of a high quality and achieved within required timelines and make optimal use of available resources.
* Monitor and evaluate issues, consult with stakeholders, and provide advice regarding the provision of instrumental music in the metro NEVR region.
* In consultation with the metro NEVR principals¿ reference group, contribute to the identification of issues by recognising opportunities for improvement and initiating actions to support improvement within NEVR instrumental music programs.
* Ensure that accountabilities and outcomes are met and regularly reported upon.
* Actively participate in the annual Performance and Development Plan review process.

Specific Duties

The metro NEVR principals¿ reference group and regional leadership will provide support to the metro NEVR Instrumental Music Coordination Team in its specific duties to ensure the effective delivery of Instrumental Music Programs in schools across the region. Instrumental Music Coordinators will provide effective leadership and support for instrumental music teachers and schools in the NEVR, collaborating within their own team and with their respective leadership group to:

* Provide a coordinated regional instrumental music program to service the needs of instrumental music teachers and secondary schools and provide advice to the metro NEVR principals¿ reference group and regional leadership regarding instrumental music service needs and issues across the region.
* Provide support and advice regarding the IM staffing needs of schools, teaching allocations, priorities in music education and curriculum issues affecting instrumental music teachers. A working knowledge of contemporary music programs will be advantageous.
* Organise appropriate professional development activities for instrumental music teachers in metro NEVR.
* Provide secondary schools with assistance and advice on all aspects of their instrumental music program to ensure continuous improvement of student learning.
* Assist with the production and maintenance of computer-based written materials and databases related to school music programs and instrumental music staffing. A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, Filemaker-Pro and Adobe Design software will be advantageous.
* Manage or assist with NEVR events such as the annual NEVR Youth Concert and workshops and be prepared to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment, including working extended hours and occasional weekends in relation to major projects as needed.
* Regularly produce an NEVR instrumental music teacher newsletter.
* Provide advice to music coordinators/principals regarding the preparation of reports and submissions relevant to instrumental music e.g., the annual IM school survey. This includes overseeing a portfolio of schools and coordinating school visits at least once per year or more often if required. A driver¿s licence and reliable vehicle is essential. Occasional country travel may be necessary.

Other duties as required by the metro NEVR principals' reference group and regional leadership.

The role of classroom teacher may include but is not limited to:

* Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students;
* Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum area or other curriculum program within the school;
* Undertaking other classroom teaching related and organisational duties as determined by the School Principal;
* Participating in activities such as parent/teacher meetings; staff meetings; camps and excursions;
* Undertaking other non-teaching supervisory duties

Who May Apply


Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

VIT LANTITE


To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
