The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority
Posted: 18 November
Offer description

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (the Reef Authority) is a Commonwealth non-corporate entity and a statutory agency established by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act **** (Marine Park Act), reporting to the Minister for the Environment and Water.
Our objective is the long-term protection, ecologically sustainable use, understanding, and enjoyment of the Great Barrier Reef for all Australians and the international community through the care and development of the Marine Park.
Managing a reef roughly the size of Italy demands many skills and talents, so you don't have to be a marine biologist to contribute to our mission.
From finance to marketing roles, we have a team almost as diverse as the ecosystem we protect.
Our commitment and dedication to the Great Barrier Reef and the Australian public have a long-lasting impact, and we are looking for individuals who can bring their unique skills, experience, and knowledge to our high-performing and inclusive organisation.
The Position
We are seeking a systems and data analyst to work within the Compliance Planning team to develop and manage business systems and data that improve field management of the Marine Parks and Island National Parks for the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.
You will have skills in understanding data analysis solutions broadly and experience in integrating technology solutions with business systems, data management, and data visualisation.
You will have a focus on implementing and maintaining robust data management systems that keep the Reef Joint Field Management Program's compliance operations running effectively, for example, the Compliance Management System and the Field Reporting System.
You will also assist in the software implementation and data management of innovative technology projects, for example, vessel tracking systems, remote monitoring drone operations, artificial intelligence, satellite imagery, and remotely operated cameras and radar systems.
You will be able to consider how technology can augment staff capabilities to deliver efficiency gains.
To achieve this, you will need to work closely with colleagues in the Reef Authority, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, and external collaborators and providers to deliver technology and business system improvements.
You will further need to work with a cross-section of Reef Joint Field Management Program staff to support the uptake and continued operability of technologies and business systems used by the Program.
What's in it for you
Contribute to the long-term protection of a World Heritage-listed natural wonder
Work on cutting-edge projects including AI, drones, and satellite monitoring
Collaborate with passionate professionals across government and science
Be part of a purpose-driven, inclusive, and supportive workplace
Work in either Townsville or Cairns
What you'll bring
Experience with data systems, architecture, and integration
Proficiency in tools such as SQL, Power BI, Databricks, and Azure DevOps
Strong attention to detail in data accuracy and visual design
Analytical mindset with the ability to identify system improvements
Ability to work across technical and operational teams to deliver aligned solutions
