Job Description
The Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic plays a pivotal role in maintaining and repairing customer and company heavy equipment and components. This individual is responsible for performing routine service and emergency calls as required, often working extended hours.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
* Maintain a safe work environment and adheres to all safety regulations while performing work assignments.
* Recondition, repair, service, and assemble any machines/industrial equipment.
* Diagnose problems and determine what repairs are needed.
* Perform any inspections as required.
* Report any shortages and malfunctions to the Service Manager.
* Maintain records and account for all time, parts, and supplies used in repairing and servicing both customer and dealership equipment.
* Handle customer problems professionally and tactfully.
* Assist in directing work of helpers or on-the-job trainees and provide instructions as required.
* Disassemble and inspect equipment efficiently so parts can be ordered and machine work scheduled promptly.
* Perform all service tasks assigned by the Service Manager, Supervisor, or Shop Foreman.
* Prepare reports and forms required in conjunction with job assignments.
* Report any additional work required to ensure proper operation and safety of equipment to the Service Manager.
* Participate in service training programs to develop skills and knowledge.
* Keep a clean work area and perform work in a neat and orderly fashion.
* Bring any unsafe or non-functional shop tools, equipment, or vehicles to the attention of the Service Manager.
* Represent the dealership as a professional Service Technician at all times.
* Operate trucks and equipment with extreme caution.
* Care for shop tools, equipment, vehicles, and other employee's belongings.
* Adhere to the scheduled work schedule and report to work on time.
* Ability to work up to 12-hour days, varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
* Comply with motor vehicle state safety laws when operating company vehicles.
