The opportunity

As the Team Leader for Rates Information & Services, you'll lead a close‑knit group of three dedicated team members, helping them build confidence, capability and pride in the essential services they deliver. You'll bring your extensive rates or accounts experience into a role that sits at the heart of Council's rating function-working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure our community receives an accurate, reliable and high‑quality service.
Supported by the Rates Manager and working alongside the Team Leader Billing & Recovery, you'll have the opportunity to shape processes, drive improvement and contribute to meaningful projects such as service optimisation and the farmland review. This is a Permanent Full Time position. Salary from : $106, 378 up to $123, 385 per annum plus superannuation. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications)
What you will be doing
In this leadership role, you'll guide the Rates Information & Services Team to deliver accurate, customer‑focused rating services while fostering a positive, supportive team environment. You'll oversee end‑to‑end rates processing-including supplementary valuations, 603 certificates, pensioner concessions, direct debits, and ownership transfers-ensuring data integrity, compliance and efficient workflow. Working closely with the Rates Manager and the Team Leader Billing & Recovery, you'll drive continuous improvement across rates and sundry debtor processes, contribute to major projects such as the Service Optimisation Project and Farmland Review, and apply relevant legislation including the Local Government Act and Valuation of Land Act.
You'll collaborate with stakeholders across Finance, Customer Service, Spatial Services, Waste, the Chief Finanicial Officer's office and external partners, strengthening communication and refining work practices. Day to day, you'll resolve customer enquiries with a solution‑focused approach, manage payment arrangements, lead valuation, subdivision and strata data accuracy, oversee reconciliations and KPI reporting, and maintain Council's rating system. You'll also contribute to hardship and stormwater committee decisions and uphold strong WHS practices.
About you
You're a confident people leader with extensive experience who loves turning complex accounts problems into clear solutions. You coach, mentor and lift others, communicate with impact, and keep teams moving in fast, deadline‑driven environments. You're fluent with computerised rating/accounting systems and advanced spreadsheets, and you apply sound judgement and discretion in everything you do.
You bring practical rating/accounting know‑how that you can confidently apply across key rating legislation and processes-including the Local Government Act, Valuation of Land Act, Revenue Raising Manual, pensioner concessions, and property and subdivision requirements-pairing accuracy with a customer‑first mindset.
