About the role
The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) provides safe and effective supervised clinical management of patients within the Women's Services division. The role involves assessment, admission, investigation, management and discharge of patients across obstetrics and gynaecology.
This 12‐month position is targeted at RMOs with prior experience in Women's Health who have a strong interest in pursuing GP Obstetrics or applying for FRANZCOG training. The role is designed to increase exposure to procedural obstetrics and gynaecology skills, including assisted vaginal delivery, caesarean section and minor gynaecology procedures, alongside critical clinical decision‐making to prepare the successful applicant for an unaccredited registrar role in Women's Health the following year.
The SRMO role includes a junior leadership component within the RMO cohort, contributing to orientation, communication, rostering and education. Opportunities may exist to complete DRANZCOG Advanced for candidates who have already completed DRANZCOG Basic. Participation in after‐hours, on‐call and recall rosters is required.
Key responsibilities
* Provide supervised obstetric and gynaecological clinical care in line with best practice and Barwon Health policies
* Participate in inpatient, outpatient and intrapartum care, including on‐call and after‐hours duties
* Contribute to multidisciplinary team care alongside midwifery, nursing and allied health staff
* Support junior medical staff through leadership, teaching and roster support activities

* Prior experience in Women's Health and a strong interest in obstetrics and gynaecology training pathways
* Demonstrated commitment to patient‐centred, evidence‐based care
