Your role
The Project Support Officer plays an important enabling role within the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), supporting the smooth delivery of projects that contribute to a safe, just and inclusive NSW. Working within Corporate Services' Infrastructure & Assets division, the role helps ensure key organisational initiatives progress effectively by providing research, analysis, reporting and administrative support that underpins informed decision‑making and high‑quality project outcomes.
Day to day, the Project Support Officer undertakes a mix of operational and administrative responsibilities, including coordinating meetings, preparing project papers, supporting financial and administrative processes, and maintaining records to ensure compliance with project methodologies. The role actively monitors project plans, milestones and deliverables, identifies issues requiring escalation, and contributes to the implementation of project activities to ensure outcomes are achieved on time, within scope and to the required quality standards.
What you'll do
The role is part of the Infrastructure & Assets unit within Corporate Services, working closely with managers, project teams and internal and external stakeholders in a collaborative and supportive environment. The team culture values open communication, shared problem‑solving and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on delivering work that meets organisational needs and serves the broader community. Staff are encouraged to work together, exchange information openly, and contribute to collective project success while upholding DCJ's commitment to inclusion, professionalism and social impact.
What we're looking for
The ideal candidate is a proactive and detail‑oriented project support professional who has experience working across operational justice environments such as courthouses, Community Corrections offices, Community Service Centres and, where relevant, residential service settings. They bring practical understanding of how infrastructure, safety, and service delivery intersect in frontline justice and community environments. The candidate will ideally have been involved in or supported projects relating to security upgrades, asset maintenance, or compliance with protective security standards, enabling them to navigate stakeholder needs and operational constraints confidently.
They demonstrate strong organisational skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a commitment to improving processes and delivering high‑quality outcomes. They communicate effectively, work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, and bring sound analytical skills to support monitoring project progress, preparing documentation, and resolving issues. Familiarity with project reporting, records management and administrative coordination is highly valued.
A NSW Driver Licence is essential, along with willingness to travel, and the successful candidate will model resilience, accountability and professionalism consistent with the NSW Public Sector Capability Framework.
We focus on hiring people who share our commitment and goals of inclusion, collaboration, adaptability, courage and integrity. If you meet the essential requirements and the role resonates with you, please apply – you do not need to meet every desired requirement for us to want to talk to you.
