From $86,611 per annum plus superannuation

* Full Time | 9-day fortnight | 36.00 hours per week

The Disaster and Emergency Management Unit (DEMU) plays a critical role in helping the City prepare for, respond to, and recover from disaster and emergency events. Based at the City’s Disaster and Emergency Management Centre Ashmore, the team works closely with internal branches, emergency services, government agencies, and community partners to strengthen resilience and support the safety and wellbeing of our community.

Operating across the Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Recovery (PPRR) spectrum, the team leads initiatives that enhance operational readiness, build capability, and support coordinated emergency management outcomes across the City.


About the role

As an Emergency Management Officer, you will provide operational support to the Disaster and Emergency Management Unit, contributing to a broad range of disaster and emergency management activities. Working under general direction, you will assist with planning, capability development, operational readiness, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen the City’s resilience.

This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You will support the delivery of training and exercises, contribute to emergency planning activities, maintain critical systems and data, and assist in developing reports, briefings, and operational materials. You will also play an important role during disaster and emergency events through participation in rostered Local Disaster Coordination Centre (LDCC) functions, including outside standard business hours when required.

Working collaboratively across the organisation and with external partners, you will help deliver initiatives that improve preparedness and support positive outcomes for the community.


We’re looking for people who have:

We’re seeking a proactive and organised professional who is passionate about emergency management and community resilience.

* Experience supporting operational management, resilience, community safety, or related programs and initiatives
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
* Experience supporting projects, and programs, training activities, exercises, or stakeholder engagement programs
* Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, briefings, correspondence, and operational documentation
* Well‑developed research, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
* Experience collecting, maintaining, and analysing information to support planning, reporting, and continuous improvement activities
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
* The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
* A commitment to community resilience, continuous improvement, and delivering positive outcomes
* The flexibility to participate in rostered Local Disaster Coordination Centre (LDCC) functions, including during emergency activations and outside standard business hours
* Qualifications in Emergency Management, Disaster Management, Public Safety, Risk Management, Community Resilience, Project Management, or a related discipline or equivalent experience
* Experience working within an operational environment
* Knowledge of the Queensland disaster management arrangements and the Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Recovery (PPRR) framework
* Experience working with stakeholder relations, emergency services, government agencies, or community organisations in an emergency management context
