EL1 Finance – Assistant Director Opportunities (General & Professional Stream)

The NDIA's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Division is looking to fill multiple EL1 Assistant Director vacancies across the division.
The Chief Financial Officer Division is responsible in ensuring financial governance and management within the NDIA. We collaborate with stakeholders across the agency and government to ensure efficient, effective, and ethical use of Commonwealth resources while championing transformative change and enhancing financial sustainability.
The Finance Projects and Systems Team is responsible for managing and maintaining core finance systems and providing user support within the Financial Reporting and Control Branch. The team is also responsible for driving system and process improvements across the branch and leads the implementation of key finance projects.
The Budget Strategy Team is responsible for shaping the agency's budget strategy and associated documents. The team also coordinates and leads the agency's liaison with the Department of Health, central and other Commonwealth agencies on budget-related matters.
The Scheme Reporting Team provides oversight in the performance & position of the Scheme's financial statements and monitors the financial systems these statements rely on. Comprising four specialised teams, they collectively analyse revenues, expenses, payables, receivables, systems and controls. Their critical role involves informed decision-making, safeguarding financial position, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
Roles will be offered as Professional Stream only (mandatory qualifications apply as below) or General Stream - as part of the application process you will be asked to select the category you wish to apply under.
For applications within the professional job stream the successful applicant must possess and maintain relevant academic qualifications with membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA), Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) or other equivalent professional finance bodies (or holding equivalent finance related post graduate qualifications).
What we're looking for in our ideal candidates:
EL1 Finance Project and Systems
• CA or CPA qualified with more than 5 years post-qualification finance experience including senior finance leadership roles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Extensive experience in business process, requirements, and GAP analysis assessment.
• Highly developed stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to partner with internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage, and work well within, teams to meet tight deadlines.
• Experience working in SAP and/or SAP BT is highly desirable.
EL1 Assistant Director Budget Strategy
• They will have demonstrated Government budget experience (either or both external or internal budget) and an excellent knowledge of the Australian Government budget processes. They will have a clear understanding of the documentation and the frameworks that support the Government's budget development, including the roles of its numerous stakeholders.
• They will be able to work independently and demonstrate high levels of strategic thinking for decision making, and strong communication skills.
• They will have excellent interpersonal skills as they will be working with senior leaders and other stakeholders. They will be able to tailor communication to target audiences, including stakeholders across the agency and Government more broadly.
• Ability to work across a broad range of activities potentially relating to the work of different program areas.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Demonstrated ability to think critically and contribute to business improvement strategies.
• Experience in business process, requirements, and GAP analysis assessment is desirable.
• Experience working in SAP and/or SAP BW is desirable.
• Demonstrated experience in system administration roles for Finance and ERP systems.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to liaise effectively between technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience delivering process improvements, system upgrades/changes and system implementations.
• Clear understanding and experience in project methodologies, solution design and UAT testing process.
• Highly developed communication skills, including the writing of executive briefs and technical documentation.
• A high level of initiative and well-developed problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

There are different remuneration bands across the 2 job streams:
Professional job stream – $131,919 to $145,229
General job stream – $120,530 to 131,919
