Locations: Brisbane, Sydney
Role and Context
We are seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Electronics, Electrical or Instrumentation Technician or Engineer, ideally with previous field experience. All our technicians are trained across multiple instrumentation networks; however, an immediate focus is to build additional capability to support our RF and radar operational infrastructure.
Responsibilities
* Travel to remote locations as required; willingness to travel is essential.
* Hands-on field work in various environments to maintain and support instrumentation networks.
* Maintain and operate systems across multiple networks, with emphasis on RF and radar infrastructure.
* Engage with stakeholders, contractors, support staff and the Australian public to deliver service delivery.
* Operate within the Brisbane and Sydney Observing Operations Hubs as part of a national maintenance workforce.
* Utilise 4WDs, planes, boats and helicopters as needed to access remote sites.

* Automatic Weather Stations (AWS)
* Upper-Air monitoring systems (Sounding Balloons)
* Sea Level Monitoring Stations
* Wave and Wave height buoys
* Satellite ground reception and space weather instruments
* Flood warning/rainfall monitoring systems
* Cooperative observers, volunteer rainfall stations
* Communications, telemetry, and instrumentation systems
Apply and Training
Specialised, in‐house competency-based training is provided on all equipment to ensure you have the necessary tools and skills to undertake the work. You will be supported by a Team Lead in the Observing Operations Hub.
Organisational Context
The Brisbane and Sydney Observing Operations Hubs are part of eight Bureau of Meteorology's premier technical Operations centres. Staff travel to remote areas to maintain service delivery across instrumentation networks and may be deployed to other hubs around the country as needed.
