Mount Isa Mines (MIM) is delivering the Groundwater Recovery and Management System (GWRMS)—a major environmental initiative designed to recover groundwater from five remediation zones and transfer it to the process plant for beneficial use. We are seeking a hands-on Project Engineer to support the civil, structural, mechanical, and piping components of this complex water-transfer system. This is an opportunity for the right candidate to gain practical site experience on a technically diverse project involving bore fields, pump stations, collector tanks, and supporting HV and fibre-optic infrastructure.
About the RoleAs a Project Engineer on the GWRMS Project, you will support the delivery of key project infrastructure, including:
* Groundwater recovery bore field surface infrastructure (headworks, small-diameter pipelines)
* Sub-soil interception trenches and submersible pump stations
* Collector tanks, pump stations, and water allocation pipelines
* Supporting civil works for new fibre-optic and high-voltage services
You will play a central role in coordinating design, construction, and contractor interfaces to ensure this integrated system is delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with project requirements.
The chosen candidate will be responsible for:
* Manage and coordinate Structural, Mechanical, Piping, and Civil work scopes across the GWRMS project
* Oversee construction permitting processes
* Collaborate closely with electrical and controls teams to identify integration and optimisation opportunities across pump stations, communications, and HV infrastructure
* Manage and coordinate fabricators, suppliers, and contractors involved in trenching, pipeline installation, pump station construction, and tank installation
* Work with design engineers to ensure designs for bore headworks, pipelines, and civil structures are practical, fit-for-purpose, and construction-ready
* Respond to RFIs and resolve construction queries raised by the execution contractor
* Ensure all project works comply with site requirements, Australian Standards, and statutory safety and QA/QC obligations
* Participate in project schedules, cost control systems, budgets, progress reports, and presentations
* Participate in tender reviews and evaluation processes for project packages
* Manage scope variations and changes in accordance with Glencore MIM procedures
You will have the following skillset and attributes:
* Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
* 2–5 years' experience in a relevant engineering role—water infrastructure, pipelines, civil works, or mechanical packages advantageous
* Knowledge of Australian Standards, Acts, and Regulations relating to civil works, pipelines, and mechanical installations
* Experience using SAP and Microsoft Project (beneficial)
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and stakeholder groups
* High-energy work ethic, able to work autonomously in the field or within a project delivery team
