Launch are seeking a Backup and Recovery Engineer to manage backup and recovery services for a large fleet of servers and services for a large scale consultancy. This role involves managing server backup operations and optimizing backup and recovery systems for efficiency and reliability. The ideal candidate will have experience in backup technologies, disaster recovery, and IT operations. Salary: $100 - 110 per hour Location: Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra or Sydney Contract Duration: 12 months NV1 clearance is essential Key Responsibilities: Backup and Recovery Systems Management: Manage the configuration, installation, and optimization of backup and recovery solutions, such as Veritas NetBackup, Veeam, Commvault, or similar platforms. Ensure backup policies and schedules are properly configured and aligned with organizational data protection requirements and SLAs. Oversee daily backup operations, including monitoring backup jobs, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring successful completion of backup and recovery tasks. Implement and maintain disaster recovery plans, conducting regular tests to validate recovery procedures and ensure data integrity. Performance Optimization: Continuously evaluate and optimize backup and recovery processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall performance. Implement best practices for backup management, including deduplication, compression, and storage optimization techniques. Monitor and analyze system performance to identify and address any bottlenecks or issues impacting backup and recovery operations. Incident Management and Troubleshooting: Act as the primary point of escalation for complex backup and recovery incidents, providing expert troubleshooting and resolution. Develop and enforce incident management protocols, including response plans for failed backups, data corruption, and recovery issues. Conduct root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. Documentation and Compliance: Create and maintain detailed documentation for backup and recovery processes, including configurations, procedures, and policies. Ensure that backup and recovery practices comply with internal policies, industry regulations, and data protection standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA). Prepare reports and documentation for audits, compliance reviews, and performance assessments. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with IT teams, including infrastructure, storage, and database administrators, to ensure seamless integration of backup and recovery solutions. Provide technical guidance and support to internal teams, ensuring effective management of backup and recovery systems. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing regular updates on transition progress, system performance, and any issues encountered. Vendor Management: Manage relationships with backup and recovery tool vendors, ensuring timely support, updates, and issue resolution. Oversee licensing agreements, ensuring compliance with vendor contracts and managing renewals as needed. Job Qualifications (Must Have Skills) Must be an Australian Citizen, and have an NV1 security clearance. 5 years of hands-on experience in managing and optimizing backup and recovery systems for large-scale enterprise environments. Strong knowledge of enterprise backup tools, including Veritas NetBackup, Veeam, Commvault, or similar. Job Qualifications (Preferred Skills) Experience in managing data protection across physical, virtual, and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, etc.). Expertise in backup policies, retention strategies, and scheduling in large-scale environments. Hands-on experience with disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution. Familiarity with backup storage technologies, such as tape libraries, SAN, NAS, and cloud-based storage. Strong understanding of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation of backup tasks. Knowledge of database, server, and application-level backups, including SQL, Oracle, VMware, and Hyper-V.
