APS6 Data Analyst
12‐month contract with possible extension. Location: ACT only (Candidates willing to relocate to Canberra will also be considered). Must be an Australian Citizen (Baseline Security Clearance highly desirable).
DFP Recruitment is seeking an experienced APS6 Data Analyst to join a Federal Government client within a Data Analytics and Modelling function, supporting research evaluation, funding policy analysis, and advanced data modelling initiatives.
Key duties and responsibilities
* Collect, process, analyse, and validate complex datasets from multiple sources to support research evaluation and policy modelling.
* Apply statistical techniques including descriptive analytics, forecasting, and data modelling to generate insights.
* Develop reports, briefs, dashboards, and data visualisations for technical and non‐technical audiences.
* Utilise SQL Server (or similar), Python, and Power BI to support data analysis, automation, and reporting outputs.
* Collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, and senior stakeholders to deliver analytical products aligned to business needs.
* Contribute to data governance, documentation standards, and repeatable analytical processes.
* Provide insights and technical advice on data analytics methods, tools, and approaches.
* Support continuous improvement of data quality, infrastructure capability, and analytical maturity.
Mandatory Requirements
* Demonstrated experience in data analysis, data modelling, and interpretation of complex datasets in a structured environment.
* Strong technical capability in SQL Server (or similar database tools), Python, and Power BI.
* Demonstrated experience developing data visualisations, dashboards, and reporting products for diverse audiences.
* Experience applying data governance principles, documentation standards, and quality assurance practices in data environments.
* Expertise across a range of data analytics algorithms and tools and a detailed understanding of data analysis, translation and visualisation concepts.
Desirable
* Experience with machine learning techniques in Python (e.g. predictive modelling or text classification).
* Exposure to data governance frameworks, research evaluation, or policy modelling within government or research environments.
