Primary objective
Perform the functions and exercise the powers of an appointed inspector as delegated in accordance with the legislation
administered by NT WorkSafe.
Context statement
NT WorkSafe is a division of the Department of Attorney-Generals and Justice responsible for assisting business and workers
understand their obligations under work health and safety, dangerous goods, electrical safety and workers compensation
legislation.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Perform the regulatory functions of an appointed inspector, or authorised officer, as delegated under applicable
legislation.
2. Provide sound advice to, and work collaboratively with industry to ensure compliance with applicable legislation.
3. Develop and participate in safety focuses, active enforcement and compliance programs in partnership with
stakeholders.
4. Direct compliance through the issuance of notices, directions and requirements under applicable legislation.
5. Provide advice and reports to the manager and regulator relating to work health and safety issues affecting government,
industry and the public.
6. Represent the division by delivering educational sessions to government and industry stakeholders to encourage
continuous improvement of workplace health and safety.
7. Assist in the planning, development, project management, delivery and reporting on intervention strategies to monitor and
improve work health and safety performance of industry aligned to the NT WorkSafe's Strategic and Business Plans.
8. Support productive working relationships with team members and a balanced approach with stakeholders.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated sound knowledge and experience in the interpretation and application of legislation.
2. Sound knowledge of the principles of procedural fairness and a familiarity with the regulatory role and framework.
3. Demonstrated ability to build and sustain positive relationships with team members, stakeholders and clients from a broad
range of multicultural backgrounds.
4. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of correspondence and the ability
to present messages confidently in a clear, concise and articulate manner.
5. Demonstrated experience in conducting enquiries into complaints or incidents, or similar.
6. A current, or the ability to acquire an Australian Driver's licence.
7. Ability to travel to remote locations that include overnight stays within the Territory.
8. Ability to obtain a working with children clearance.
Desirable
1. A tertiary qualification in work health and safety or allied field.
2. Previous experience in a regulatory agency, or trade background.
