Practice Assistant - Mergers & Acquisitions | Canberra
Our client is seeking a capable and proactive Practice Assistant to support a busy Mergers & Acquisitions practice in Canberra. This is a full-time opportunity for someone who enjoys being across the detail, staying one step ahead, and providing high-level support in a fast-paced legal environment.
In this role, you will work closely with senior fee-earners and their broader team, playing a key part in ensuring the day-to-day operations of the practice run seamlessly. This position will suit someone who takes initiative, thrives on variety, and enjoys being a trusted support person.
Key Responsibilities
* Preparing, formatting and amending legal documentation
* Conducting conflict checks and preparing appointment and engagement letters
* Managing diaries, inboxes and coordinating travel arrangements
* Building strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders
* Monitoring key dates, deadlines and coordinating filings
* Handling billing, expenses and WIP reporting
* Managing matters end-to-end, including file opening and closing, archiving and filing
* Providing general administrative and practice support as required
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys juggling multiple priorities and takes ownership of their work in a collaborative, high-performing team.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
* At least 1 year's experience in a legal support role (Legal Assistant, Practice Assistant, Legal Executive or Legal Secretary)
* A solid understanding of legal billing processes
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines
* Advanced proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
* Excellent attention to detail and sound judgement
* Clear, confident communication skills with the ability to adapt your approach
