About the Role
The Data Scientist will be responsible for analysing complex datasets (such as MBS and PBS) to provide actionable insights and support data-driven decision-making. This includes developing predictive and statistical models, performing analysis and creating data visualisations to communicate findings effectively. The Data Scientist will work closely with stakeholders, including data engineers, analysts, and the executive team, to gather requirements, develop solutions, and ensure that the final products meet the needs of the users and align with the Division's goals.

Responsibilities
* Utilising advanced statistical and machine learning methods to:
* Analyse complex datasets to deliver actionable insights that inform policy and operational decisions.
* Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
* Design, build, and deploy machine learning models.
* Develop model monitoring methods to evaluate model performance and fine-tune algorithms for optimal results.
* Provide recommendations for process improvements based on data findings.
* Working closely with stakeholders to:
* Ensure data science projects are effectively integrated into larger government initiatives.
* Facilitate workshops and meetings to gather requirements.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements.
* Provide regular updates and progress reports to stakeholders.
* Identify opportunities for cross-departmental collaboration.
* Conveying technical results and findings to:
* Clearly and effectively communicate technical results to non-technical audiences, such as senior executives, stakeholders, and community groups.
* Use reports, presentations, and data visualisation tools to present findings.
* Contributing to team efforts to:
* Represent the team in forums and meetings.
* Share knowledge and expertise with team members.
* Support team efforts as required.
* Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
* Introducing new analytical and data science methods to:
* Systematically embed new analytical and data science methods into compliance processes.
* Build capability within the team.
* Stay updated with the latest advancements in data science and analytics.
* Evaluate the effectiveness of new methods and refine as needed.
* Identifying, developing, and maintaining relationships to:
* Develop and maintain relationships to deliver work outcomes.
* Identify potential collaborators and establish partnerships.
Qualifications
* Experience delivering professional data science solutions in an operational environment.
* Experience in programming for AI and Machine Learning.
* Experience with SQL, R/Python, and R Shiny programming.
* Hands-on experience with EDW and cloud environments, ideally GCP.

* Ideally, have knowledge of the Medicare Benefits Schedule or the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.
Preferred Skills
* Demonstrated experience with data analytical platforms such as R Shiny, SAS, Power BI, Qlik.
* Demonstrated experience in programming for AI and Machine Learning.
* Demonstrated experience with EDW and cloud environments, ideally GCP.
* Demonstrated experience with SQL, and R or Python for programming.
* Demonstrated experience delivering professional data science solutions in an operational environment.
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team and across various areas of an organisation, manage diverse stakeholder relationships, and communicate data analysis to non-technical stakeholders.
Pay range and compensation package
We are offering a Joining Bonus $1000 and a referral of $1000. This is not a remote role.
