About the team
The SafeWork NSW Construction directorate has a strategic approach to supporting a safe, healthy and productive construction industry in NSW. The Construction team provides a strong and consistent focus on building industry capability through strategic stakeholder engagement, evidence and risk-based harm prevention initiatives, and proportionate and targeted regulator response to construction incidents and requests for service.
* Ability to manage and coordinate resources across the directorate to deliver regulatory responses, services and programs
* Ability to lead and manage a team and support a high performing organisational culture
* Ability to identify and respond to emerging issues and risks
* Ability to foster and maintain professional working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
* Ability to deal with complex matters in a highly sensitive environment
* Managing financial budgets associated with the efficient running of the team
Key attributes
* Ability to promote and influence the implementation of organisational direction and programs to external stakeholders, given their diverse levels of understanding and competing priorities
* Demonstrated strong Stakeholder Engagement and Project Management skills across all levels
* Demonstrated ability to deal with complex matters and at times contentious issues, including cross government, Ministerial responses, PCBU and Union negotiations
* Ability to provide strong leadership and direction to an evolving business unit culture within a dynamic and changing operating environment, while ensuring consistency with organisational and public sector values
* Ability to lead a business unit through innovative use of digital technologies to secure desired strategic outcomes
* Ability to effectively manage the functions and responsibilities of Inspectors as set out in the Work Health and Safety and Workers Compensation legislation
* Ability to represent SafeWork NSW through relevant media channels using approved process when required
* High level oral and written communication skills

* Work a 38-hour working week, including some weekends and participate in the After-Hours Emergency Response Service
* Receive an attractive salary package along with the required tools of the trade, including a vehicle with access to private use
* Be able to access flexible working conditions within operational requirements
* Ability to travel, work remotely and out of usual business hours
* Hold a NSW ‘C’ class drivers' licence with a satisfactory safe driving record and a requirement to maintain the safe driving record throughout employment
* Satisfactory criminal record check
* Satisfactory medical assessment capacity regarding physical and psychological impacts of the inherent duties of the role
* Undertake the 12-month New Inspector Training Program (NITP). This intensive program is delivered by our Registered Training Organisation and combines mandatory components of induction, class training, online learning, completion of set assessments and tasks, and extensive on-the-job field training with regular travel throughout NSW.
