Newstime Media, the proud publisher of Canberra Weekly magazine and the Canberra Daily website ), is seeking a full-time journalist to join our team. This role offers the chance to cover a wide range of stories, from local news and community coverage to lifestyle and events, capturing the heart of Canberra life.
Position Overview:
As a Journalist at Newstime Media, you'll be at the forefront of telling the stories that matter to our readers. The role involves general reporting across news, community, and lifestyle, while also creating engaging content for print, digital, and social channels.
A strong understanding of social media and creating video content are core parts of the role. You'll need to be creative, confident in filming, editing, and comfortable appearing on camera when required. Basic photography skills are also essential.
You'll also be part of a friendly, collaborative workplace where different departments work closely together. We're looking for someone with a curious mind, a positive attitude, and the confidence to reach out for interviews.
This is a dynamic position with great opportunities to interview people from all walks of life and experience the city in new ways.
Key Responsibilities:
* Report on local news, community issues, and lifestyle features.
* Conduct interviews and build strong networks across Canberra.
* Produce stories for both print and digital platforms.
* Create engaging multimedia content, including photography and videography.
* Actively manage and contribute to social media coverage.
* Provide sub-editing support to maintain content quality.
Qualifications:
* Experience in journalism (newspapers, magazines, or online media) is ideal.
* Tertiary qualifications in journalism or a related field are advantageous.
* Strong writing skills and an interest in covering a broad mix of topics.
* Proficiency in social media management, photography, and videography.
* Enthusiastic, punctual, and able to connect with diverse audiences.
* Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
