Mike Carney Toyota is seeking a high-performing Valuer / Reconditioning and Buyer to take ownership of our used vehicle acquisition and reconditioning function across the group.
This is a hands-on, floor-based role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced dealership environment and understands that profit is made in the buy — and protected in the reconditioning.
What You’ll Be Doing
As our Group Buyer, you will play a critical role in both stock acquisition and reconditioning performance:
Buying & Appraisals
* Manage all trade-in appraisals across multiple departments
* Drive a strong appraisal-to-deal conversion ratio
* Purchase and acquire vehicles from:
o Private sellers
o Auctions
o Wholesale channels
* Lead service lane valuations and acquisition opportunities
* Identify and secure high-opportunity stock aligned with market trends
* Support Sales Managers and Consultants with real-time appraisals and deal structuring
Reconditioning & Stock Control
* Take ownership of the end-to-end reconditioning process from purchase to yard-ready
* Assess and control reconditioning costs to maximise margin
* Work closely with Workshop, Detailers and Parts to ensure efficient turnaround times
* Prioritise vehicles to ensure stock is frontline-ready quickly
* Maintain strong oversight of reconditioning pipelines, delays and bottlenecks
* Ensure vehicles meet presentation standards and retail readiness
* Balance cost vs retail value when approving repairs and reconditioning work
* Drive accountability around time-to-line and cost-per-unit KPIs
On the Floor
* Maintain strong presence across the showroom and yard – this is not a desk role
* Be actively involved in daily operations and lead from the front
This role is highly KPI-driven, with a direct impact on gross, stock turn, and overall dealership performance.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who understands both buying and reconditioning discipline:
* Proven experience in used car buying, valuations or appraisal management
* Strong understanding of market pricing, margins and stock strategy
* Demonstrated ability to manage reconditioning costs and processes
* Ability to make fast, confident buying decisions
* Commercial mindset – you know how to protect margin after the purchase
* Highly driven, competitive and results-focused
* Strong presence on the floor – you lead from the front
* Ability to work closely with Sales, Service and Management teams
